anatomy is hard

RUNNING! Gosh drawing someone running is hard, I’m still not 100% happy with it, but it’s better then no running :\

My precursor comic is coming along nicely but slowly. I had hopped I’d get two pages done tonight but a large part of my evening was taken up, I ended up making some curry pumpkin soup and some Cottage pie, it was going to be shepherds pie but we couldn’t find any lamb so we stetted for beef.

I can only hope that I spend the rest of the night better or pick up the speed tomorrow. Comic + Essays was not a good combo when I look back on it now…

I’m not using to drawing A4 size at 300 DPI, everything is huge D:

Also arms are hard…. sometimes I want to just draw people armless…

RMIT update

It’s almost week 12! Which means it’s almost the end of semester 1! I can’t believe it, I’m so happy at myself for getting this far, however it’s not party time. Not till after the 14th of June when I’ve handed in my final assignment for the year. Assignments coming up are:

Research Strategies portfolio, which is just a bunch of work sheets we have been doing over the semester packaged as a PDF. I’m going to put aside a day just to like rewrite all these sheets, make it nicer since it’s being graded.

Media and Communication Futures research essay. 3500-5000 words. I did pretty well in the first essay but I’m aiming for a better grade with this second essay, my goal was to finish the draft on Thursday but… yeah that didn’t happen. I’m now aiming to have it done by Monday. I have a few friends who have offered to help me edit it, I’m so damn lucky, thank you friends, thank you classmates.

We also have this thing called “Honours Research Day Out” which is a presentation we are all doing. I think the idea is just showing what we’ve all done this past semester and what we plan to do next semester.

For media objects we’ve been refining our precursor project, I’ve been drawing a new comic and also writing a 3000 word essay. We are doing like 500 words a week, which I might need to kick up to 750 words a week to make the word count.

Research Strategies Final essay, this is the one that’s giving me the most stress, I didn’t do so well on the first essay and this final essay is worth 50% of the class. Thankfully it’s due like a week after everything else, so I have extra time to work on it >.>

Over all I have a crap load of writing to do >.<  and drawing… lots and lots of comics.

tap tap goes the keys

Approaching the second hurdle in honours, I feel like things will get better once I get these essays and assignments in. Tomorrow I had plans to finish a draft of one of my essays, sadly today was taken up with a trip to southland, not for shopping but for tech support. JB’s laptop is currently down, the apple store guy was super nice and managed to pull some strings for us. While his laptop is in the shop I’m leading my Plum to JB so he can do uni work.

There’s like 4 classes left for me this semester and I still have the PC to work on. I am sad that I won’t be able to browse the web in bed tho.

It’s been bloody cold lately, hot chocolate at night is the best however there was a lack of cocoa so tonight’s hot chocolate is a mix of milk, cocoa and Nutella. Yum yum.

Dogs and drawings

Shae bought in her lovely dog on Thursday… I love dogs *_* German shepherds are one of my favourite breeds, so smart, so big, so loveable <3 It was very nice having a dog in the class room, I hope he comes again, he was so well behaved and it was so funny to see people walk into the room and see a dog on the floor, tee-hee.

In other news I’ve been doing a lot of reading, writing and drawing. I’ve been slowly turning my story board into an actual comic.

I’m not sure why but lately I’ve been using Plum for drawing, even tho I have my PC right there XD

I saw Adam the other day, I think I’ve setting on a research question… I hope :\

Photoshop CS6 and the Wacom

While messing around in photoshop CS6 today I noticed these new brushes that weren’t in CS5. Photoshop sure has come along way when it comes to working with a tablet. It is a lot more responsive then it use to be.

When I got my first tablet back in 2003 I use to use openCanvas which imo was the best software to draw in. Photoback back then did not do a good job reading the pen pressure, however that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

These new brushes photoshop offers are pretty amazing, the first thing I noticed (while having the tablet plugged in) was a new window that showed the pen tilt. It’s pretty amazing however I feel like there’s a lag between the tablet movement and the cursor. Thankfully the window can be closed as well as changed to a smaller window.

Another thing is that I feel like these bushes are a lot thicker then the normal photoshop brushes, despite being the same pixel size. I do enjoy the flow the have but the thickness limits the detail of the drawing.

I think more tweaking is needed and these brushes would be perfect.

heroes to zeros

Before I started honours I use to think heroes were like these magical things, like a unicorn, you know in my mindset a hero was someone who was noble, kind, righteous, over all an awesome person.

But not anymore. oh no, not anymore.

This idea changed over time, I started off thinking a hero was simply someone who did things for the greater good. But then I read and learnt about the 12 types of heros (but these are real life heros). Later I agreed with Joseph Campbell. A person needed go though trails and come out as a hero. And now I’ve come to the point that within in narrative, a hero is simply a hero because they are the protagonist. They are a hero because they are on this quest. They don’t become a hero though the quest, no.They are the only one who can do this quest and that automatically labels them as a hero.
